!–paging_filter–pThe holidays sure are fun – but they can also leave you feeling a bit bogged down with all the celebratory eating, drinking and merrymaking. If you’re experiencing a post-holiday drag, may I suggest one of the following beverage cures? These sippers may not be completely work appropriate if you sadly have to head back into the office, but they’ll certainly make your day better./p

pThe holidays, while jolly, sometimes leave you feeling as if you’ve been knocked around a bit. This shot, from local boozy genius Andrew Bohrer’s book ema href=”http://www.amazon.com/Best-Shots-Youve-Never-Tried-ebook/dp/B008NB9M66/t…” target=”_blank”The Best Shots You’ve Never Tried/a/em, helps you to remember that you’re the champ, not the chump./p
pem1 ounce white rum (or try /emema href=”http://sunliquor.com/sunrumbarrelaged.php ” target=”_blank”Sun Liquor’s aged rum here)/a/em/p
pem1/2 ounce simple syrup/em/p
pem1 whole egg/em/p
pem2 dashes hot sauce (your choice)/em/p
p1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway full with ice cubes. Add everything. Shake well./p
p2. Strain through a fine strainer into a shot glass. Drink quickly, and always go down swinging./p

pWaking up to a new year here in Seattle after a full couple of weeks of revelry and song can make a day appear very foggy. Or, it actually is really foggy and rainy outside. Or both! Either way, show the world that your day is bright by starting it with this lesser-known classic using the recipe from emGood Spirits/em./p
pem2 ounces gin (a href=”http://www.pacificdistillery.com” target=”_blank”try Voyager gin/a/emem)/em/p
pem3/4 ounce sweet vermouth/em/p
pem2 dashes orange bitters (go with a href=”http://scrappysbitters.com/orange/” target=”_blank”Scrappy’s orange bitters /a/ememand keep things local)/em/p
pemOrange twist, for garnish/em/p
p1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway full with ice cubes. Add the gin, vermouth, and bitters. Shake the clouds away./p
p2. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with the orange twist./p
pstrongTiger Milk/strong/p
pSure, you could start the year all healthy-esque with one of the nutrition bars that shares the same name as this cocktail. But I think perhaps a happier path might be to take this tiger out for a spin (and by that I mean drink). The recipe, also from ema href=”http://www.amazon.com/Good-Spirits-Recipes-Revelations-Refreshments/dp/1…” target=”_blank”Good Spirits/a/em, definitely will put a smile on your face faster than going for a run or some such thing./p
pemCracked ice/em/p
pem2 ounces brandy/em/p
pem1/2 ounce heavy cream/em/p
pem1/2 ounce milk/em/p
pemFreshly grated nutmeg/em/p
p1. Fill a cocktail shaker half way with cracked ice. Add the brandy, cream, and milk. Shake for about minute, but stealthily, like you were stalking./p
p2. Strain into a cocktail glass. Grate fresh nutmeg over the top (you don’t want to completely cover the top, but do want a decent amount)./p
pstrongVashon Brainstorm/strong/p
pIf your mental apparatus just can’t get kicked into gear as the New Year starts revving up and the holidays start revving down, try jumpstarting the little grey cells with this mighty mixture, a variation of original Brainstorm cocktail, altered by subbing in Seattle Distilling Company’s Irish-ish Idle Hours whiskey for plain ol’ Irish whiskey. This one will either get you thinking quicker, or help you realize that another day of frolicking is always a better idea than over-thinking things./p
pemIce cubes/em/p
pem2 ounces /emema href=”http://www.seattledistillingcompany.com” target=”_blank”Idle Hours whiskey/a/em/p
pem1 ounce sweet vermouth/em/p
pem1/4 ounce Benedictine/em/p
pemOrange twist for garnish/em/p
p1. Fill a cocktail shaker or mixing glass halfway full with cracked ice. Add the whiskey, vermouth, and Benedictine. Stir well./p
p2. Strain the mix into a cocktail glass. Squeeze the orange twist over the glass and drop it in./p
