Time for the first-ever edition of Seattle mag's Fashion & Style Friday, our weekly shoutout to local (and sometimes not-so local) designers, shops, cool new products, hot looks and everything in between.
Seattle mag's inaugural Fashion & Style Friday shoutout takes a closer look at a new understated trend that's being spotted on stylish nails across town and nationwide. Unlike their pearly, neon and irredescent counterparts, matte shades are cropping up at salons (OPI, one of the more ubiquitous polish brands has several matte shades) in edgy and statement making black, charcoal and white. Of course you can go matte with punchy tones, too. For a few weeks this summer my nails were a bright purple that would have been borderline annoying if it weren't for the flat texture of my matte Essie polish. If aren't lucky enough to find the perfect polish, don't fret. I learned on a recent trip to Julep's downtown parlor that you can opt for a http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2009/08/matte-top-coats-lets-compare.html target=_blank>matte top coat to go with any of the salon's polishes. Do yourself a favor and break away from the mani-pedi pack this fall and go shine-free.
