Local caterer and Pomegranate Bistro owner, Lisa Dupar, received a national nod this month in Modern Bride magazine which called out her culinary talents in its 25 Trendsetters of the Year Awards. Dupar--a quintessential Seattle caterer who has received many accolades from Seattle mag and Seattle Bride--is known for working with couples to create signature menus ripe with individual flair.
Since starting her business 25 years ago, she's worked with a growing number of brides and grooms eager to flex their own culinary muscles. "Don't be shy about asking your caterer to create something nontraditional, she advised Modern Bride readers.

“I’m seeing more couples who are foodies,” says caterer Lisa Dupar. “We’ve gone from the bride bringing in a picture of a cake she wants us to replicate, to couples talking through signature menus created just for them.” Dupar has catered for celebrities, including Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford, Sheryl Crow, Sophia Loren and Steven Spielberg. But the 200 wedding events she does each year represent her most creative work. She translates relationship stories and culinary passions into inventive menus. For a bride and groom who loved Mexican street food, Dupar served high-end fare from a taco cart, such as habanero sugar-rubbed flank steak and Dungeness crab and tomato gazpacho. She also crafts bars that toast a couple’s uniqueness: She created an absinthe bar for a pair who met in Paris and visited one there, and she’s known for her “wedding pie” bar, a colorful arrangement of pie-flavored martinis—lemon meringue, apple crumb, even strawberry rhubarb. “Don’t be shy about asking your caterer to create something nontraditional,” she says. “Most chefs love a challenge.”
