Seattle Radio Theatre: Dracula
Friday (10/29) - Orson Welles’ Mercury Theatre is best know for its 1938 radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds, but months before freaking people out during that show, it aired a live radio version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Seattle Radio Theatre is reproducing this take on the Gothic tale, live, onstage with plenty of Halloweeny sound effects. 7 p.m. Prices vary. Saturday (10/30) – From the Hideout (1005 Boren Ave.; hideoutseattle.com) to the Sorrento’s Hunt Club (900 Madison St., hotelsorrento.com) to Vito’s (927 9th Ave.; vitosseattle.com), First Hill, find Halloween refuge on First Hill this weekend. The neighborhood’s bars will have live music, drink specials and plenty of spook. Don a costume to compete for the $500 cash prize. 7 p.m. - 2 a.m. Free. Locations vary.
Saturday (10/30) - Singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens leaves his beloved Midwest for Seattle to grace us with his folk-rock rhythms and famously delicate vocal style. His piano-heavy, minimalist sound and spiritually inspired lyrics always make for an intimate music experience. Tuesdays & Wednesdays (11/2 - 11/17) - David Nixon is a man of many talents. An actor, writer, animator and musician (he plays banjo for the band "Awesome"), he's also a Doctor of Philosophy. He makes use of his advanced degree (as well as his other skills) in this world premiere solo show, in which he grapples with the meaning of a meaningful life by way of animation, magic, music and mouth noises.
