Uptown calls itself the “home of the Velvet Foam” (which is not Mel Torme’s evil twin). So, did Uptown invent steamed milk? Not exactly. But it did introduce Seattle to the silky foamed milk that makes latte part possible, so we might want to consider giving them a key to the city. At Uptown, baristas pour the foam into a perfect cream-ringed circle atop the latte. It looks like the full moon, but it goes down much smoother. During Uptown’s grunge-era heyday, it boasted lines out the door. The place is a little more relaxed and lived in now, and still worth a visit before band practice.
