Who knew that this tiny shop on eastern Lower Queen Anne would spawn an empire? Vita cups, saucers and coffee are as much a part of the Seattle restaurant experience as salmon and small plates (in addition to the crowded coffee shops, Vita is served in countless local restaurants). The company also has its finger in the pie at Via Tribunali, and has been a Pike/Pine anchor since 1999 (when people were still asking whether Pike/Pine would ever fulfill its potential). In fact, it’s the Capitol Hill shop that houses the roaster, as well as a permanent collection of the pierced, tattooed and tobaccoed posing at the outdoor tables. If we were going to start a punk band, we would have our first meeting-and our demise-at Caffe Vita.
