The largest, best-attended and most-loved (OK, so we’re a little biased) film festival in the U.S., SIFF is now in its 38th year. The festival’s vast offerings include many local efforts, including the Fly Filmmaking Challenge, which has kicked off the careers of several renowned local filmmakers, including Lynn Shelton, Megan Griffiths, T.J. Martin and John Jeffcoat. For the challenge, each of four Seattle filmmakers—this year, Lacey Leavitt, Jeremy Mackie, Tracy Rector and Nathan Williams—assembles a 10-minute film in just two weeks. For an added twist, to commemorate the World’s Fair 50th, the filmmakers are required to shoot exclusively on the Seattle Center campus.
