High Ceilings, Happy Staff
The room is comfortably spacious, with high ceilings dotted with elegantly artsy fixtures, and tables that easily shift to accommodate larger crowds. The serving staff is charming: Amiable folks such as Finn Von Claret and Vanessa Tiemann make one feel welcome while keeping the edibles and drinkables flowing, especially during the lengthy happy hour from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday–Friday, when you’ll find discounts on drinks ($1 off the solid draft selection and $4 well drinks) and on a range of food. Highlights include the tangy and crunchy pickled veggies and the lush warm and salty goat-cheese-stuffed dates (both only $3)—and all the dishes come in a serious snacking size, not downsized like at some happy hours. There’s also a full food menu later in the evening and brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.
Drinks in the Back
With blue-tiled tables under the arched branches of a giant tree, the backyard is an ideal space to wind down with a house cocktail, such as the Manhattan to Prague (Bulleit bourbon, Becherovka and Cinzano sweet vermouth; $8) or one of five variations on the Moscow Mule ($7).
