Radiolab: In the Dark
Perhaps you’ve heard the show Radiolab on KUOW, but now NPR’s popular science show invites you to use your eyes as well as your ears at a live recording of In the Dark. The show will explore the science of sight and what it’s like to live without it, and will feature performances from Portland rocker Thao Nguyen and the dance phenom Pilobolus (yes, dancers on a radio show). Add the suspenseful story of an astronaut’s spacewalk, and this is one broadcast you’ll want to hear and see.
8/24, 8:00 p.m. $36-$46. The Paramount Theatre, 911 Pine St., 877.784.4849; stgpresents.org
Smoke Farm: Farm Time
Seattle’s coolest annual arts festival does not actually take place in Seattle. A 90-minute drive north brings you to a down-home end of summer fete, complete with field tromping, swimming and general outdoors frolicking. Mix and mingle among a slew of outdoor art installations, performances, readings and more amidst the gorgeous scenery of the surrounding river valley. Think of it as summer camp, with an extended and flexible arts itinerary.

Best Steak Frites Ever
At the age of 52, local chef Greg Atkinson finally opened his first restaurant. Bainbridge Island’s Restaurant Marché is a fine food establishment just off the main drag in Winslow—and totally worth the ferry ride. Our dining editor raved about the meals she enjoyed in the comfortable and stylish space; her words exactly: “easily the best steak frites I’ve had.” Be sure to make reservations.
