If you've been mentally camping out in preparation for Shanik's opening (which was supposed to happen today!), well, hunker down for a few more days. We've been tracking this, the most exciting opening of the year for nearly a year. Now, we have to wait just a few more days for the place to launch.
Why? On Saturday night, owner Meeru Dhalwala (and co-owner, with husband Vikram Vij, of the famed Vij's and Rangoli in Vancouver, BC) hosted a friends-and-family dinner to preview the restaurant. I didn't attend, as I try to remain as anonymous as possible for my reviewing duties, but many Seattle food media and bloggers did. And the reports of long waits for food—some as long as an hour and a half—and other foibles were cast across Twitter. Owner Meeru Dhalwala made a smart call: Delay the opening, iron out those kinks.
