If one of your New Years resolutions is to live in the moment, to create more experiences and buy less crap, then the Walrus & Carpenter Oyster Picnic might be just the ticket.
You dress (very) warmly, you meet oyster man and Food Establishmentee, Jon Rowley, at 6:30 pm at Elliott’s Oyster House and you hop on a rowdy bus to drive south to the Taylor Shellfish beds in Shelton for oysters (and plenty of chilled white wine!) shucked and slurped right there on the beach at low tide. You'll be back in Seattle around midnight. It's quite an experience, especially if you luck into clear skies.
The event's name is inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Walrus & Carpenter, a tale of how the Walrus & Carpenter lure the oysters for a “lovely walk, a lovely talk upon the briny beach” and then proceed to eat them all. (There's no relation between this event and the Ballard restaurant, Walrus & Carpenter.)
