Beck’s “Song Reader” Live
Saturday (1/19) — A lengthy roster of Seattle musicians will perform one song each from Beck’s “Song Reader” at Royal Room live this weekend. “Song Reader” is the album the indie sensation released last summer via sheet music only. In other words, there is no CD, digital download or album on which you can hit “play.” Seeing the music performed live by talented local artists is your best bet for getting close to the artist’s original intent.
1/19. Two separate shows: 7pm (all ages) and 9:30pm (21+). $12- $15. The Royal Room, 5000 Rainier Ave South; theroyalroomseattle.com
Presidential Inauguration / MLK Day
Monday (1/21) — Martin Luther King Jr. Day feels especially poignant this year, given that it falls on the same day we ring in the second term of our first African American president. Watch the televised Presidential inauguration ceremony (featuring performances by Alicia Keys, James Taylor and other stars) in the company of your fellow citizens at two free viewing parties, one at Town Hall and another at the Northwest African American Museum, and join in local volunteer service events planned to honor Dr. King.
Give yourself a break from planning and cooking every meal by ordering dinner from one of our favorite local pro kitchens that prepare and deliver fresh, gourmet meals—many of them vegan and/or gluten-free. Our edit team sampled enough dishes from local companies to create this handy guide to ordering meals in (without the side of guilt).
