Just like its namesake, the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival explores race relations through art. The nine-day festival features more than 40 independent films and shorts by and about African-Americans, ranging from the early ’80s sci-fi cult classic The Brother from Another Planet (alien star Joe Morton will be in attendance!) to Robert Townsend’s 2011 film In the Hive, about an alternative school that was a “last chance” for troubled black youth. Filmmakers and community leaders will lead discussions following screenings.
