The iconic Belltown corner where Scott Carsberg’s Lampreia lived for two decades (and which later became Bisato) reopened last week as The Lost Pelican.
Michael Forte, the owner of Capitol Hill's The Lookout, has strong Southern roots; he spent years running fine dining restaurants for the Brennan family in New Orleans (owners of such legendary eateries as Commander’s Palace). It shows: The Pelican's menu, which was a collaboration with Monroe, Louisiana native and chef Mark Amatangelo, is chock full of crawfish, crabcakes, gumbo and grits, with most dishes in the $7 to $12 range.
Plus there's a (long) happy hour, from 3pm until 7pm, when oysters Rockefeller, crawfish fritters and more are just $5 (there are drink specials, too). I'm especially looking forward to trying the New Orleans-style cocktails, but if you're more of a purist I'm told the bourbon list is worth a look.
