This month's TEDxSeattle Talk is centered around the theme Degrees of Impact and will feature a slew of speakers who will discuss and share ideas on personal, community and global influence. Most notably, Matika Wilbur, photographer and founder of Project 562 (and subject of an extensive profile in our June 2013 issue), is slated to speak at the event. Wilbur will discuss Project 562, which is her cross-country quest to photograph members of all federally registered Native American tribes in order to tell the story of the modern Native American and break the stereotype of Native Americans as "vanishing races." See Wilbur's Kickstarter video for more about the project.
One such photograph featured in Wilbur's 562 collection is her portrait of performer Sage Romero, who has Big Pine Paiute and Taos Pueblo lineages. The shot captures him standing on Paiute land holding the sacred hoops he uses in his dances, which you can watch here. Read the full story on Matika Wilbur that was featured in our June issue.
