If you gaze out over Elliott Bay this weekend you might catch a glimpse of the Hugo Boss yacht, a carbon fiber, 60 mono-hull racing boat with around 600 square meters of sail (that’s the size of a soccer field) helmed by British skipper Alex Thomson, who races her all over the globe.
Hugo Boss has been sponsoring Thomson since 2003 and in 2012 the team competed in the Vendée Globe, a three-month, round the world race, crossing the finish line in third place, 80 days, 19 hours, 23 minutes and 43 seconds after he started.
The sailcloth that the boat utilizes is tailor-made by Hugo Boss to resist saltwater and cold weather. And of course, Thomson and his team are outfitted in head-to-toe Hugo Boss (sportswear and evening wear) as part of their sponsorship.
The boat isn’t open for public rides, but will be available to check out when docked at the Bell Harbor Marina (2203 Alaskan Way) from Friday through Sunday. I’ll be aboard on Friday morning, so keep an eye on my Instagram (@alibrownrigg) for shots of the boat and her dashing crew.
