The Far East meets the Eastside at the luxe HARNN NATURAL HOME SPA (115A Bellevue Square, Bellevue 425.467.6300 harnnusa.com), the first U.S. outpost of this global enterprise (with 60 stores worldwide), developed by University of Washington grad and Thai native Paul Harn. Antique shelves are stocked with Asian-inspired natural bath and beauty products scented with lavender, jasmine and Oriental herbs. We love the exfoliating bar made from black rice ($6.99), and the virgin coconut oil ($36) for dry hair.
Former owner of hipster salon The Gilt Edge Society and 13-year style vet Steven Barrett spent last summer renovating a raw space on Second Avenue to create the loft-like STEVEN BARRETT SALON (Belltown, 1907 Second Ave. 206.448.8466 stevenbarrettsalon.com). Guests enjoy sumptuous Oribe products, plus manicures, pedicures, lash extensions and occasionally, Belltown-appropriate “happy hour” blow-outs (hours and availability vary depending on seasonal specials).
Karen Jahn, owner of the popular Ballard skincare lounge THE WAX BAR, opens her first spinoff this month in West Seattle’s burgeoning 37th Avenue ’burb (West Seattle, 4450 37th Ave. SW; thewaxbarseattle.com). As chic as its sibling, this teal-and-white spot also offers an array of waxing options, from brows ($24) to bikini ($42), and skincare treatments, including the new V.I.P. facial ($115), customized for each skin type.
