The Seahawks may not be in the game, but if you still want to watch the Super Bowl, head to super sporty Ballard Loft on February 1 to catch the action on any of the 12 flat screens
The Vibe: Sports fans and a handful of resident hipsters mix and mingle at the year-old Ballard Loft to eat, drink and play (the place is stocked with pool tables, shuffleboard, darts, video games and more). Exposed ductwork and rafters frame the expansive and noisy space. Outside is a sprawling patio.
The Food: Standout items on the pub-grub menu are the “House Specialty Doggs”, including 11 variations of America’s favorite sausage. During happy hour (Mon.–Fri., 4–6 p.m.) all appetizers are half-price, including the fried pickle spears ($6) and the “Soldered Sliders” ($8), four mini burgers topped with cheese and served with a horseradish-infused pickle.
The Drinks: Fill up a jumbo 25-ounce glass with Georgetown Brewing Co.’s Manny’s Pale Ale ($6), or try a Scandinavian Pop cocktail ($8), a fresh mix of Absolut Kurant, cranberry juice, sour mix and ginger ale, served with fresh cranberries—a pleasantly refreshing nod to the area’s Nordic roots.
The Bathroom: Certainly not the trendiest of bathrooms we’ve seen: Beer ads and a Seahawks’ season schedule are plastered on the walls of all three bathrooms (including one unisex), and toilet paper is likely to clutter the floor. Elizabeth Mortenson
