Restaurateur John Howie is promising a September opening for his new brewery and distillery in Bothell. Beardslee Alehouse and Wildwood Spirits is going into the Village at Beardslee Crossing complex, perfectly located on the outskirts of Woodinville’s burgeoning Napa-esque landscape. The new restaurant will be a casual affair, with flatbreads and housemade meats, while Wildwood will be run by Howie’s sommelier and (potential) Master Distiller, Erik Liedholm. Here are 10 other things you should know.
The first freestanding U.S. location of Hokkaido Ramen Santouka opens in Bellevue next Thursday, April 24, with 10 additional stores coming to the country this month (hat tip to Eater Seattle)
Corretto is now open in the former Panevino space on Broadway. Travis Rosenthal, who owns Tango and Rumba just down the hill on Pike, is heaving on handmade pastas (courtesy of a La Spiga alum) and boozy coffee cocktails (courtesy of Slate Coffee Roasters). Corretto will be starting morning coffee service on Monday from 7 a.m. until bar closing. And yes, you can get a daytime corretto.
Chicago-style pizza chain Patxi's ('PAW-cheez) is coming to Ballard in July, taking over the former Dolce Vita storefront at 5323 Ballard Ave N.W. The company already has 11 branches, nine of which are in northern California. Last September, Patxi's CEO Bill Freeman told The Seattle Times that, "We are confident that we will rank with the best of them in Seattle." (hat tip to MyBallard.com)
A first-time Seattle restauranteur with an impressive international resume is planning to open a new Vietnamese/French restaurant called Stateside on Capitol Hill (300 E. Pike) this fall. Eric Johnson is taking over the 2,400-square-foot space next to Six Arms. CHS has more.
Longtime Georgetown hangout Calamity Jane’s abruptly closed. The announcement was made on their Facebook page Monday:
It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that as of today, Calamity Jane's is closed. After 7 years of your loyal support, great times, and working in a fantastic neighborhood and community, it was sadly time to move on. We have a devout following of regulars who, like us, are distressed at how the sale of Calamity's has occurred. This is disappointing to all of us. We expected to handle this in the most graceful way possible. Our intent was to celebrate; however, the sale transaction happened more quickly than we expected and we had to close abruptly. Thank you all for your support and your faith in this adventure. We love you all!
After three decades, Piecora’s served its last slice April 15. CHS has details on what will replace the building.
Chico Madrid, the little Spanish café at the BellRoy Apartments on Capitol Hill, is now closed. Its last day was April 13. One of the co-founders sites a simple case of not enough business for the shutter. In it’s place: a Fuel coffee pop-up, courtesy of owner Dani Cone, who was also a partner in Chico Madrid.
Comings, Goings and Goings-On
Chef Shaun McCrain is leaving Book Bindery to open his own yet-to-be-announced project. Owners of the Fremont restaurant announced the shake-up via email:
Even as our hearts break a little to write this, we, the owners of Book Bindery, are so grateful and fortunate that Shaun shared his time (four years!) and talents with us.
If you want to taste Shaun's cooking while he's still at Book Bindery, you have until June 28 to do so.
What will happen to Book Bindery after that date? It was always our dream to turn Book Bindery into a talent incubator, a launching pad for great up-and-coming chefs. When we were first told about Shaun's plans some time ago, we started dining out around town with a vengeance, peering into kitchens on the sly, and making discreet inquiries.
We are in talks with a very worthy successor, but inquiries from interested parties are welcome and will be kept for future reference. We can't release any details just yet, but we will promise this: The food at Book Bindery will continue to be utterly delicious.
The team behind Stoneburner and Bastille now have a one-acre farm in Redmond. The plot at Blue Tractor Farm will be split into two parts: Stoneburner’s half will feature Mediterranean plant varieties, while Bastille’s will focus more on traditional French plantings. Seattle Urban Farm Company, the same group that maintains Bastille’s rooftop garden, will be taking care of the land.
