MUST SEE
SIFF’s Apocalypse Film Festival
Ongoing (12/12–12/20) — “What form will the apocalypse take?” SIFF Cinema wonders. “Virus? Nuclear attack? Zombies? Primates? Kevin Costner?” None of the above, we sincerely hope. But what a fantastic theme for a film festival. Visit SIFF Cinema Uptown this week to honor the Mayan calendar’s dire prediction by revisiting some of the most memorable doomsday flicks made over the last century, including Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Dawn of the Dead and Planet of the Apes. It all culminates with a retrospective screening of the best apocalyptic music videos. Watch the festival trailer below.
12/12–12/20. Times and prices vary. SIFF Cinema at the Uptown, 511 Queen Anne Ave. N; 206.324.9996; siff.net

MUST TASTE
Gunpowder Punch
Our favorite cocktail of 2012? This tropical, tangy, classic concoction as reimagined by Belltown’s Rob Roy. You won’t believe it, but it’s made with actual gunpowder. According to our cocktail expert A.J. Rathbun, sailors used to add gunpowder to rum, then light it on fire. If the drink exploded, they knew they were getting the good, high-proof stuff. Another reason to visit Rob Roy this season? The Cocktail Advent Calendar, ongoing until December 24.
Rob Roy. Open daily, 4:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. Belltown, 2332 Second Ave.; 206.956.8423; robroyseattle.com

MUST HEAR
John Roderick’s Christmas Album
Local indie musician and Twitter celeb John Roderick (The Long Winters) has teamed up with New York singer-songwriter Jonathan Coulton to make One Christmas at a Time, a new album full of original Christmas songs (and one Chanukah tune!) with titles such as “Christmas in Jail” and “Christmas is Interesting.” It’s the perfect background music for your White Elephant party.
