Why You Should Care About the Earth Day Oso Fundraiser at Palace Ballroom
The devastation in Oso is still a very real thing, and continues to be on the minds of the culinary community here in Seattle.
Next Tuesday, April 22 (Earth Day), Tom Douglas is hosting an Oso fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting the United Way of Snohomish County, because what restoration and recovery teams really need right now is cold hard cash! Notable restaurateurs Ethan Stowell and Josh Henderson will be providing the food and 18 Washington wineries will be donating wine. Sub Pop co-founder Bruce Pavitt will be supplying the tunes.
Sometimes, as weeks go by, tragedies like this become less top of mind to those not directly affected. I spoke to Mr. Douglas this afternoon. His response to that?
For God’s sake, there are still people buried up there that we haven’t found yet, which is a huge reason we needs funds. 750 people are working up there right now trying to clear the mess. It’s just common sense; this is a long-term process. Come on down and be part of the solution.
The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Ballroom. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased online, where you can also find the complete list of participants. If you'd like to donate your ticket to a culinary student, that's an option too. Here are some other places you can donate to relief efforts immediately.
