Her work is now not only on screen, but also on the racks at Nordstrom (and other retailers).

Movie and TV star Melissa McCarthy (Ghostbusters, Gilmore Girls) visited the downtown Nordstrom store Friday, promoting her women’s clothing line Melissa McCarthy Seven7 during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

Her line features whimsical prints and feminine silhouettes, designed to help women showcase their personalitiesit also reflects McCarthy’s personal style. In fact, she created the line as a way to fill her own dream closet.

“I couldn’t find clothes,” she says. “Simple as that. I just couldn’t find clothes that I thought made me happy. I’ve always loved clothes, I’ve always found them fun. But I got to a certain size and that just completely went away. If you know something’s making you feel bad, you have to change it. I thought, I can’t be the only one. I want to be comfortable all day, and wear something that makes me happy, and I want it to fit really great.”

McCarthy muses for the designs include everything from art to music, even things she collects. A piece from the collection was inspired by vintage zodiac maps the actress found.

“I find inspiration absolutely everywhere,” she says. “Something will start to present itself, and it just all starts to have a story. It can come from really anything. I think it’s very me.”

The line, McCarthy says, is aimed at returning to a style that complements women’s figures, like feminine seams and flattering curves.

“I thought, ‘Why are we no longer making women’s clothes for women’s bodies?’ It took many years to get it up and off the ground, and I just love it. I wear every piece, I’m at every fitting, and I make the prints, and it’s been an absolute joy.”

The Melissa McCarthy Seven7 collection is available at Nordstrom locations in the city (Downtown, Bellevue and Northgate) and and offers select styles in sizes 4-28; all items in the collection range in price from $59-$198.
