“I’m an eternal dabbler,” says Lisa Jones, creator of Portland ceramic studio Pigeon Toe Ceramics. “I’m always willing to take on a process I don’t know.” Jones dabbled in a new medium this past year with the launch of the studio’s first candle line. Porcelain clay bowls house soy wax candles with scents by Oregon-based fragrance studio Midnight Collective, whose natural home fragrance products are also available at Prism in Ballard. “We knew we wanted single-note, region-specific fragrances,” Jones says of the Pacific Northwest–inspired scents, including lavender and eucalyptus. Once a candle has burned down completely, the vessels can be repurposed as decorative catchalls. “The candles use white crawl glaze, which forms a unique, textured pattern after firing,” Jones says. “These slightly different finishes make a special piece that can be reused.”
