From Fields to Family Opens Tonight

Attention all foodies!

From Fields to Family, a new exhibit at the Wing Luke Museum, is opening tonight. If you are interested in learning more about the heritage surrounding the Asian Pacific American food influence in Washington, you should definitely make time to explore this exhibit. It will include many facets of the food experience, from cultural traditions and cooking techniques, to farming and the impact of politics on the food community over the years. As you move through the exhibit, you will have a chance to see modern cuisine (Marination food truck) blend with the historical (a machine once used to cut and fold fotune cookies). It is a hands-on exhibit, and participants are encouraged to learn how to use chopsticks at one station, stir fry wooden veggies at another, and you can even practice rolling small pieces of felt sushi.

There will also be special events to coincide with the exhibit, including a combination plate dinner with food anthropologist Maxine Chan in October, and a book reading with Shiro Kashiba (owner of Shiro’s Sushi in Belltown), follwed by a book signing, sushi demonstration and tasting, in November.

The exhibit runs until July 15, 2012.
