Inspired by influential women like Michelle Obama and Malala Yousafzai, longtime friends Cara Ingham and Lisa Santos launched their Seattle-based online necktie company, AndieandErin, last fall. Their ties are modeled after the popular fashion accessory that complemented power suits in the late ’70s and ‘80s, as the fight for women’s empowerment entered the corporate workplace.

Each of the seven silk neckties ($40–$64) that are part of their first line is named after a trailblazing woman with delightful monikers such as FLOTUS with the MOSTUS (Michelle Obama), The Mexican Icon (Frida Kahlo) and Queen of Pop (Beyoncé).

For the Malala Yousafzai necktie, color was an important choice. “We chose a beautiful pink color that was a similar shade to the pink headscarf she wears on the cover of her best-selling memoir,” says Ingham.

When Beyoncé asks, “Who run the world?” you can bet Ingham and Santos believe the answer is “Girls!”—and they’ve designed the perfect accessory for it, too.
