!–paging_filter–pArtisanal. Handcrafted. Small batch. While we may roll our eyes at the current worship of these buzzwords, there’s no denying that they signify products made with different priorities than those of giant companies. The Pacific Northwest is a bastion of such quirky innovations—so much so that it can be hard to keep track of all the small and wonderful things made here. Enter MakrBox, a new CSA-style monthly subscription service that, instead of fresh veggies from local farms, delivers a box of independent products made by locally based craftspeople. Founders Barrett McBride, Dustin McBride and Jackie Gow, based in the Chinatown–International District, scour the Northwest for the best indie products and select two or three items for each delivery. Past items have included Favornature’s handmade soap, San Juan Island sea salt, BigSpoon jam and small porcelain cups from Portland’s Pigeon Toe Ceramics. The sampling is always surprising and fun—not to mention a small-batch source of handcrafted treats for yourself and artisanal gifts for others. $34/month includes shipping and handling. a href=”http://www.makrbox.com” target=”_blank”makrbox.com /a/p
