Magnuson Park’s New Brewpub Makes the Neighborhood Cheer

With its classic brewpub menu and the exposed brick-and-beam decor, it’s clear that Magnuson Café and Brewery isn’t out to revolutionize the game. But that doesn’t mean the Sand Point neighborhood spot, open since August, isn’t already a beloved local asset. Judging by the bounty of young families enjoying a meal and post-workout sports teams enjoying a drink, it most definitely is.

Magnuson—located within Magnuson Park—was launched by the Mollusk Brewing and Dexter Brewhouse team including owner Cody Cluff and brewmaster Cody Morris. The space is a former torpedo warehouse from the 1930s that’s gone largely unused since then. Because the space only allows room for about 60 indoor seats, Cluff had the brilliant idea of adding 140 seats on the covered, heated patio, making this one of the most desirable new patios (complete with water view) in town, regardless of the weather.

On the menu, the greatest accomplishment is the fried chicken. Get it on a kale salad ($18), in a brioche bun ($14.50) or with biscuits and gravy ($16)—just get it (and a beer, of course).
