Specialty pizza purveyor Big Mario’s will list the venerable Northlake Tavern for sale.

Big Mario’s purchased the 65-year-old Northlake Tavern early last year after it closed in January 2023. Big Mario’s then spent seven months on an extensive update and renovation, and reopened the Seattle institution as Big Mario’s Northlake Tavern last August.

The restaurant will close during the month of August and will reopen at the end of the month for the University of Washington’s upcoming season.

In a statement, a Big Mario’s spokesperson said only that “We have decided to list the business for sale. While we hoped the Mario’s brand would dovetail with the Northlake legacy, we feel the Northlake would do better under new stewardship, as simply the Northlake Tavern.”

Big Mario’s still operates three locations across Seattle.

Seattle Beer Week Pours One for the City

No one needs a reason to drink beer. But bringing people together is the best one.

Seattle Beer Week is about community — not just the crowds at taprooms and breweries, but the people who make the beer, haul kegs, trade ideas, and keep the taps running. This spirit carries into the 16th annual Seattle Beer Week, which runs May 9-17 with more than 50 events across the city. It’s grown…

Twenty-four beers take home medals

Remember that old Tom T. Hall song, I Like Beer? I was a kid when it came out in the mid-1970s, but it must have stuck with me, because I’m definitely a beer guy. I was keenly interested, then, when I learned that seven Washington breweries took home Gold medals in the annual World Beer…

New wine bar and bottle shop offers small-batch wines by women, BIPOC, and queer winemakers

Alyssa Lisle is out to crush the norms around wine. Lisle opened Lucy’s Bottle Shop in January in a nondescript midcentury warehouse at 23rd Avenue West and Emerson Street — the newest addition to a nameless little micro-neighborhood to the west of Fisherman’s Terminal, just around the corner from Figurehead Brewing. Its mission behind opening…

Brewery has been closed since August

For a few years I was a regular at Rooftop Brewing, just blocks from Seattle Pacific University. I got to know owner Craig Christian, a lawyer turned brewer, and always loved the beers and friendly staff, many of whom were recent SPU grads. It’s well known that the popular microbrewery on the southeastern edge of…
