Planning a night out soon? Sure, Seattle is loaded with possibilities, but you may want to consider heading to Woodinville or even Bainbridge Island.

Those three cities rank in the top eight of vacation rental company HomeToGo’s “Taste of Summer Index” of the best food and drink experiences across the United States. The analysis looked at the percentage of restaurants with a rating of at least four stars on review sites (think Tripadvisor or Yelp) and the number of food tours and markets in each area. The analysis also examined vacation rental costs.

Woodinville ranked No. 2, trailing only Portland, Oregon. Seattle was No. 5 and Bainbridge Island No. 8.

The report notes that Woodinville “overflows with small-town charm and world-class tipple. Explore this destination’s four districts and discover their culinary delights, from laid-back farmers market fare to luxury fine dining.”  If you do go, check out the Barking Frog at Willows Lodge, The Schoolhouse District or The Hollywood Tavern, which has operated for almost 80 years.

Of Seattle, it said “from the International District to Capitol Hill, Seattle’s food scene is as diverse and dynamic as the city itself, shaped by coastal influences and global flavors. The city’s coffee culture is also a highlight, with locally roasted brews fueling busy vacation days.”

It also called Seattle “one of the best summer vacation spots for artsy and adventurous travelers,” noting that the Pratt Fine Arts Center offers a range of workshops, and MoPOP “is a great place to learn about music in popular culture.”

Astoria, Oregon, was the only other Pacific Northwest city in the top five.

Chef Nathan Lockwood’s seasonal fare is even better on the restaurant’s hidden back terrace

It seems like everyone — celebrities, influencers, half my friends — is having a “European Summer.”  I’m not complaining because I get to travel a lot throughout the year (and there is truly no place like Seattle in the summer), but if I see one more person enjoying a plate of spaghetti with clams on…
