The Ink Drinker Comes to Ballard
New bar for book lovers will occupy the former Ballard Beer Company space

As a journalist who really likes beer, I was intrigued when I came across an Instagram post that said a new bar called “The Ink Drinker” will soon open in Ballard.
The post under “theinkdrinkerseattle” says “it’s a bar where you can come, kick back with your latest read, and enjoy a craft cocktail (or mocktail) with minimal distractions (i.e. no TVs, no blaring music, no clangy pool tables), while surrounded by fellow book lovers.
“Why? Why not? We, as readers, deserve a bar that’s made just for us. So, join us as our story begins …”
The new bar will take over the space previously held by the Ballard Beer Company for the past 10 years at 2050 N.W. Market St. The company recently announced on Instagram that it is closed. Even Ballard Beer Company is excited about The Ink Drinker.
“It has been an amazing ten year run and we are excited about the vision that the new local owners have for the space. We can’t thank you enough Ballard!”
The owner of the Ink Drinker, a woman named Shelle, also wrote on Instagram: “I’ve been an avid reader since I was a kid. Reading isn’t just a hobby. It sustains me. Books have carried me through grief, anxiety, and plenty of other not-so-great experiences in my life. At a time of increasing censorship, reading is more important than ever.”
Especially when accompanied by a pint.
