A day at the spa is a fabulous way to unwind and recharge, but for those looking for something beyond traditional services, a few Seattle spas have upped the ante with new innovations.

Habitude Salon and Day Spa (Ballard, 2801 NW Market St.; 206.782.2898) founder Inez Gray recently introduced Spa Canna: a massage that incorporates lotions made with cannabidiol—a substance derived from cannabis and commonly known as CBD—to induce deep relaxation and improve symptoms related to joint inflammation. The therapeutic experience uses non-psychotropic products from Denver-based body care line Apothecanna.

Antonio Spa (114 Virginia St.; 206.448.2684), the new offshoot of Belltown-based Antonio Salon, offers a contemporary open-floor concept with appointments taking place behind ceiling-high curtains. “Sometimes going to the spa can be an ordeal,” says co-owner Masumi Hill, “so we created a space that is approachable and open that still offers private spaces for our clients.” We recommend the OxyGeneo facial, an oxygen-infused treatment that restores skin volume, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and tightens pores.

We’ve all tried to dream up ways to complete a workout without going to the gym. The Infrared Pod, offered exclusively in Greater Seattle at Penelope and the Beauty Bar (downtown, 411 University St.; 206.438.1750), might be as close as we get. A single session of lying in the jade-lined pod, which acts similarly to a sauna, supposedly burns around 400 calories. Other benefits include reduced stress, increased cardiovascular conditioning and clearer pores.

Change is inevitable. Let’s embrace it.

So, I shut up for the next minute or maybe even two. I stopped listening to what was being said and let my eyes wander around the studio before I began staring distantly at a spot on the wall above the window that looked out into the newsroom. I was like a pinball machine that
