City living often means sacrificing on space, parking and nice-to-haves. But this home has it all.

Built in 1909, it’s a grand mansion with sought-after features such as oak hardwood floors, crown molding, box-beam ceilings and mullioned windows. Current owners Dr. Charles Millington and his wife, Charlotte, thoughtfully renovated the space to preserve its original charm.

“This is the most special home my wife and I have had together,” Dr. Millington said. “When we first saw it, it was in pretty fair shape. But we were outbid, so we had to wait until about 10 years ago, when it became available again.

“By that time, it was really crying out for help,” he continued. “There was a lot of deferred maintenance. We started remodeling and, in doing so, we began to love it more and more.”

The home, which is now on the market for $2.05 million, has an updated kitchen that is more than four times the size of the original, radiant cooling and heating, and a lap pool that can be enjoyed year-round thanks to an enclosed glass atrium. Additionally, there are 5 bedrooms, 4.25 baths and 3 balconies—including one right off the master suite.

Situated on a double lot, the 6,150-square-foot house also includes highly coveted city amenities such as a two-car garage, a circular driveway and plenty of yard space.

If the home’s amenities and proximity to the heart of downtown Seattle aren’t enough, there’s also the spectacular view. The home overlooks Portage Bay—the eastern arm of a small urban lake that connects to a larger one.

“We can see the finish line for the Husky crew races,” shared Dr. Millington, referring to the University of Washington’s famous rowing team competitions.
