Here, we’re featuring a Seattle-area home that we think is interesting, inspiring or just a downright feast for the eyes. Some of them are actually on the market, while other homes will offer enviable style tips–courtesy of their ingenious owners or designers–that you can steal for your own abode.

House hunters on the lookout for properties with historic pedigree may want to schedule a showing for this five-bedroom beauty on Mercer Island. The Symphony House–so named for when the Seattle Symphony hosted a fundraiser there–was built in 1910 for Seattle businessman DB McMahon and is currently one of the oldest homes still standing on the island.

The home has worn several different hats over the years, Curbed Seattle notes, including operating as a pre-school, a salon and a vicarage. This past fall, local luxury home builder JayMarc Homes announced that it had restored the famed Symphony House to a residence yet again, but this time with ample upgrades for modern living.

“While this is not a typical undertaking for JayMarc,” Marc Rousso, president of JayMarc Homes, said, “being a part of the Mercer Island community is very important to who we are and this project allows us to give back in a meaningful and lasting way. We want our fellow neighbors to know how excited we have been to take on a challenge like this restoration.”

Curently listed for $2,299,950, the historic abode boasts an entirely brand-new kitchen with gorgeous gray-hued custom cabinetry, high-end stainless-steel appliances and marble countertops. The master bathroom has been renovated with clean, white subway tiles and now features a glass-enclosed shower. A powder bathroom was added to the main floor and another full bath was added in the basement. “[We] took great care throughout the restoration to stay true to the original character of the house so that as much as possible was preserved,” said JayMarc Homes’ interior designer Aimee Upper. “We also wanted to give the home a cohesive look while maintaining its original feel.”

Among the original details that remain are the home’s Venetian glass windows and intricate millwork imported from Siberia.

Additionally, JayMarc added a two-car garage and updated all the electrical and plumbing to meet current building codes. Take a look at more spectacular shots of the Symphony Home’s interior.

JayMarc is currently constructing two new homes next door to the historic dwelling that take important design cues from the original. Dubbed the Symphony Collection, the contemporary Chopin and Mozart floor plans–both sharing similar sweeping views of Lake Washington and striking brick archways–are slated to be completed in spring 2016 and are available for pre-sale.
