!–paging_filter–pBallard mom Season Evans grew up around the quilting traditions of the Mennonite and Amish communities of southeastern Pennsylvania, “where quilts could be bought from barns and roadside stands,” she says. She taught herself to quilt while in college in Kutztown, Penn. After a brief foray into publishing, Evans, 34, found herself getting serious about quilting four years ago, creating pieces in a style that she calls “modern traditional,” soft enough to be snuggled with, yet beautiful enough to hang as art. “Simplicity is my most consistent source of inspiration,” says Evans, who works as long as 80 hours on a single quilt, using a variety of fabrics, including yukata cotton (the fabric used for casual summer kimonos). “I design my quilts to tell stories of place, movement and tradition…it is a visual story…of where I’ve been—and where my influences are from—to where I am now.” From $450. Collaborations or custom projects are considered on a case-by-case basis.
