This week the North Cascades Institute, which is celebrating its 25th year conserving and protecting Northwest environments through experiential outdoor education, announced an exciting slate of learning programs and field excursions as part of its 2011 schedule. This year the Institute made a special effort to bring back some of its favorite field instructors from its early years. To wit, participants can follow Robert Michael Pyle as he quests for butterflies, Dennis Paulson on the hunt for dragonflies and damselflies, and Libby Mills tracking down avian friends. The Institute is also offering three different writing classes led by leading regional authors (fiction, essay, poetry, etc), as well as a series of art classes (watercolors, cedar weaving, digital photography, journaling). And for those more inclined to sit and listen, the Sourdough Speaker Series is sure to delight with visits from Judy Bentley, Stan Miller and Jonathan Reischman. Find out more at the Institute’s website. Sign up while you can: early bird registrants (before March 20) get $25 off any program over $100.
