From rugged coastlines to sandy beaches, from lush rainforests to mountain ranges, the Pacific Northwest is a stunningly beautiful place. Many don’t realize the region is home to several temperate rainforests.

Back in June 1966, Seattle magazine produced a special travel issue showcasing the unique attributes of the region’s remarkable natural beauty.

“From beaches to mountains, shown in colorful photos, this area is a unique playground that beckons tourists from all over,” the magazine boasted. “These reveal … the Northwest’s unparalleled natural endowments.” As for the cover, editors admitted that the Native American totem pole on a Puget Sound island suggested the “violence of a primitive past,” but noted that it marked the spirit of constant rediscovery. “It evokes the lure of today’s Northwest as a gratifying place to visit and, above all, to live in.”

Last year, almost 38 million people visited King County, a 9% increase from 2022 and more than 90% of pre-pandemic levels.

As fall beckons, it’s time to enjoy the vibrant foliage and abundant green spaces our region has to offer.

Trailhead Direct makes summer hiking easier, greener, and a lot less stressful

And that’s after dealing with narrow mountain roads and the stress…

Despite a leaner budget, Washington State Parks says services and access will stay the same

The agency might be tightening its belt, but summer fun is still on. Like other parts of state government, Washington State Parks took a hit in the latest legislative session, but visitors shouldn’t notice any changes to staffing or services this season. “We were fairly fortunate in that we were able to make mostly non-staffing…

Tahiti is a tropical paradise that combines natural beauty, rich culture, and luxurious experiences

From the Bounty to Brando, French Polynesia stirs our most primal escapism. Lush, verdant peaks teetering above gin-clear lagoons, filled with a brilliant, sapphire menagerie — it only begins to describe the allure, as does the scent of gardenias drifting through the air like a persistent opiate. With the same ancient Polynesian culture firmly rooted…

How to enjoy the City by the Bay without a car

The streets of San Francisco might not have Karl Malden and Michael Douglas solving crimes these days, but some visitors still consider the traffic a crime. Rideshare was invented here for a reason — but you don’t need to jump in a car to enjoy the iconic “City by the Bay” experience. If time is…
