Credit union BECU has secured the naming rights for the Seattle Storm’s basketball facility.

The $64 million facility in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood will now be known as the BECU Storm Center for Basketball Performance. The center opened in April 2024.

The Storm says the deal is the first for an independently owned WNBA team.

The 50,000-square-foot building includes two indoor professional basketball courts and two outdoor three-on-three courts. There’s also a lap pool, hot and cold plunge, a nutrition center, a player’s lounge, a strength and conditioning center and a health and wellness suite. The Storm’s offices are on the second floor.

Tukwila-based BECU has long been a sponsor of the Storm. On May 25, the court at Climate Pledge Arena — where the Storm plays its games — will become BECU Court during Storm home games.

Seattle opens the 2025 season May 17 at the Phoenix Mercury.

Seattle is different than it once was. That doesn’t mean it’s worse.

I like to tell people that sports brought me to Seattle. This is technically correct: My first trip to the city was to watch a college basketball game. This was back in 1987, and I was 12 years old. The truth is that generosity is what got me here, though. My family lived in Southern…
