Seattle is about to host some of the biggest soccer matches in the world.

This summer, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup comes to town. It’s the largest club soccer tournament ever held in the U.S. — 32 teams, 63 matches, 12 cities. The tournament kicks off June 14 in Miami.

Lumen Field gets six of them, including a hometown face-off between the Sounders and Paris Saint-Germain.

FIFA just put out the call for volunteers. “Volunteers are the heart, soul, face and the smile of FIFA tournaments,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino wrote in an Instagram post. “Put simply, we would not be able to organise our tournaments without them!”

To volunteer, you’ve got to be at least 18 years old and able to commit to eight shifts. Roles include guest services, accreditation, media support, transportation, and team services. A few of the perks listed on the site are an official volunteer uniform, meals during shifts, and a behind-the-scenes look at a global tournament.

Here’s the games at Lumen Field:
June 15: Botafogo vs. Seattle Sounders
June 17: River Plate vs. Urawa Red Diamonds
June 19: Seattle Sounders vs. Atlético Madrid
June 21: Inter Milan vs. Urawa Red Diamonds
June 23: Seattle Sounders vs. Paris Saint-Germain
June 25: Inter Milan vs. River Plate

While this summer’s tournament features some of the world’s top club teams, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will bring national teams to Seattle — and a projected $1 billion economic boost. The city’s ready. The $800 million waterfront redevelopment is complete, Seattle Center will host the fan zone, and a new light rail line will soon connect downtown Seattle to Redmond.

Clarity: Back to Where it All Began

Seattle is different than it once was. That doesn’t mean it’s worse.

I like to tell people that sports brought me to Seattle. This is technically correct: My first trip to the city was to watch a college basketball game. This was back in 1987, and I was 12 years old. The truth is that generosity is what got me here, though. My family lived in Southern…
