Two women, one in an orange dress and the other in a black top, smile and pose indoors against a colorful backdrop with a brick wall. Their joyful vibes could light up any room. It's like they've just found out they're the next potential winners of $100,000 for supporting Pike Place Market Foundation!

Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market is in the running for a $100,000 prize as a finalist for The Kelly Clarkson Show’s Good Neighbor of the Year. Tune in to KOMO News today at 2 p.m. to see the Market featured on national TV, then head to @kellyclarksonshow’s Instagram story to vote by entering “Seattle.” Voting closes Friday, Dec. 6.

Established in 1907, Pike Place Market is one of the oldest continuously operating public markets in the United States. Spanning nine acres in downtown Seattle, the Market is home to more than 500 small businesses. It also provides senior housing and essential social services to the community.

If Pike Place Market Foundation wins, the $100,000 prize will help further its work in the community. Established in 1982, the nonprofit supports small businesses and farmers at the Market and provides housing, childcare, healthcare, financial assistance, and access to fresh food for low-income residents. The foundation also operates The Market Commons, a resource hub offering essential programs and services.

I love visiting Pike Place Market any time of year. The energy is unlike anything else, and it’s inspiring to see so many small businesses supported in the heart of Seattle. It’ll definitely be getting my vote.

Upcoming events at Pike Place Market include free Santa photos on Saturday, Dec. 14, and Crafty’s Handmade HoliDAYS, running Dec. 16–20.

Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission will build a new shelter for unhoused women and children

A 21-unit shelter for unhoused women and children may seem insignificant, but it represents another step toward eradicating homelessness in King County. Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission has received a $3 million award from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines to fund the construction of the emergency shelter in South King County for homeless…

The Downtown Seattle Association notes persistent gains in foot traffic

It’s still too early to weigh the ramifications of Amazon’s return-to-work mandate, but another report from the Downtown Seattle Association finds that more workers are returning to the city’s core on a daily basis. The organization’s Downtown Revitalization Dashboard shows a 5% increase in December compared to the same month in 2023. In fact, every…

The city ranks among the best in the U.S. for economic growth

You may not think of Olympia as a hub of innovative technology.  You may not know that the city’s technology sector grew faster than that of any city in the United States from 2018 to 2023. You may also not be aware that the city is among the “most equal” in the country, meaning that…
