Kraken Unleashed
Giant blue tentacles are attacking the city
By Sarah Stackhouse October 4, 2024
Have you noticed the huge blue tentacles popping up around Seattle? As part of the Kraken’s campaign to kick off the 2024-25 season, these sea-monstrous installations have appeared at popular spots like Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, Ivar’s Acres of Clams, and The Fairmont Olympic Hotel. On X, the Kraken wrote, “If you spot any giant tentacles around town, just know we definitely had nothing to do with it!”
Fans are snapping photos and tagging @seattlekraken, building excitement for the season opener Oct. 8 against the St. Louis Blues at Climate Pledge Arena.
It’s not just tentacles — giant bobbleheads of Kraken players have also been spotted around town. Defenseman Vince Dunn’s bobblehead was seen at Bellevue Downtown Station, and right winger and alternate captain Jordan Eberle has also been spotted. The team wrote on X, “You never know where they might pop up next, so keep your eyes peeled and let us know when you see them.” It sounds like we can expect them to move around, adding even more fun to this city-wide scavenger hunt.
The Kraken, Seattle’s first NHL team, made their debut in the 2021-22 season after a $650 million expansion fee. They earned a playoff spot and pulled off an upset against the defending champion Colorado Avalanche in their second season, but missed the playoffs last year. The regular season concludes with a home game against the Los Angeles Kings on April 15.
