Must List: 6 Fun Things to Do in Seattle This Week
Usher, movie magic, and Wicked fun
By Sarah Stackhouse November 7, 2024
Hey there, how are you? Some of you might be feeling OK, while others are just plain exhausted. Hang in there. I’ve been on lots of walks, trying to find little pockets of beauty — dew in the spiderwebs, a crazed squirrel burying things as they always seem to this time of year, leaves floating down from trees. Today I saw a couple holding hands.
And hey, our new magazine is out! It’s fun and playful. If you’re craving a little community right now, this is it. In our Readers’ Choice issue, we’ve highlighted the best of the city — all chosen by you. These places serve warm, cozy meals, brunch with waterfront views, delicious cocktails, or offer services like a relaxing day at the spa. Be sure to check out our editor’s and publisher’s thoughts on this year’s picks.
And if you’re looking to get out there, here are some fun things to do.
Rep 2: All Balanchine
Now-Nov. 10
Marion Oliver McCaw Hall
$30+
Get ready for a ballet that captures George Balanchine’s genius. The program pairs his stunning choreography with the music of Vivaldi, Corelli, Prokofiev, and Stravinsky. Graceful and lively — perfect for anyone who loves to see music come to life.
Usher
Nov. 10 and 11, 8 p.m.
Climate Pledge Arena
$100+
I’ve heard Usher’s live shows are unreal — he goes all-out! Raised in Chattanooga, he’s been dominating the R&B scene for ages. You know the hits: “Yeah!,” “U Got It Bad,” “Ruin,” and everything from Confessions. Seriously, if you can catch him live, do it.
The Art of Studio Ghibli
Now-Nov. 14
SIFF Cinema Downtown
$14.50+
Studio Ghibli movies are some of my favorites — beautiful works of art that capture the magic, mysteries, and little scares of being young. I can never pick a favorite, though My Neighbor Totoro might be it. Whether you’ve seen them a dozen times or not at all, this series is a perfect chance to experience them on the big screen.
Cloudbreak
Nov. 7-27
Several venues in Seattle
Here’s the deal: Book a night at one of 70-plus participating hotels in Seattle this November, and you’ll get a free pass to see a ton of local bands live. It’s basically an excuse to play tourist for a weekend, have a date night at a hotel, or just check out live music with friends. If you’re from out of town, it’s a good way to experience Seattle’s music scene.
Wicked
Now-Dec. 1
The Paramount Theatre
$100+
See the untold story of the Witches of Oz — how the misunderstood green-skinned Elphaba and the good witch Galinda became unlikely friends. “If every musical had the brains, heart and courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place” (Time Magazine).
Home Beyond Earth
Now-Jan. 20, 2025
The Museum of Flight
Free with museum entrance
Space is cool — everyone knows that. Home Beyond Earth shows you what it’s like to be an astronaut. Get up close to the challenges, thrills, and daily routines of life in orbit. From eating and sleeping to exploring the unknown, it’s like stepping into their world.
