Glowing lanterns, foodie gifts, folksy tunes
By Sarah Stackhouse November 14, 2024

Seattle, we’re already halfway through November, and the holidays are right around the corner. However you celebrate, it’s always a busy time, isn’t it? Holiday pop-ups are starting to open, like the Christmas Dive Bar — so go ahead and kick off the season with a festive drink. And be sure to check out our Readers’ Choice winners here.
This weekend also marks World Toilet Day, with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation doing amazing work around sanitation. Are you tuning into KEXP-FM today? It’s been a comforting listen, reminding us all of the power of music.
Stay cozy and kind, and let the season begin!
An Evening with Shawn Colvin & KT Tunstall
Friday, Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m.
Edmonds Center for the Arts
$45+
If you’ve seen any video clips from this tour, you know it’s going to be a night full of great stories and folky tunes. Shawn Colvin, the voice behind “Sunny Came Home,” and KT Tunstall, with her song “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree,” are joining forces. These two singer-songwriters have a way of making the stage feel intimate and personal.
WildLanterns
Nov. 15-Jan. 19, 2025, 4 p.m.-9 p.m.
Woodland Park Zoo
$19+
It’s always fun to see the zoo light up at night with glowing lanterns. We do it every year. The kids run around, while we sip warm drinks and layer up in scarves and puffy jackets. For something different, try Night Owls — the 21+ nights at WildLanterns with festive cocktails and themed lounges.
Gobble Up
Saturday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Magnuson Park Hangar 30
$2
Kick off the shopping season with an array of unique gifts or find something for those on your list who love to cook (or eat). With more than 100 vendors, food trucks, and even hourly book signings, it’s a good way to stock up on goodies for your kitchen.
Nutcracker Magical Christmas Ballet
Sunday, Nov. 17, 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
The Moore Theatre
$30+
This classic holiday show features an all-star cast, dazzling costumes, acrobatics, and Tchaikovsky’s iconic music. Seeing it has become a holiday tradition for many and leaves everyone feeling merry and bright year after year.
Matty Matheson
Tuesday, Nov. 19, 7:30 p.m.
Town Hall – Great Hall
$7+
Matty Matheson makes cooking feel fun and approachable. Known for his role on The Bear (he’s hilarious), his bestselling cookbook redefines soups, salads, and sandwiches with great flavors and easy-going recipes. It’s not about stuffy cooking — he’ll have you thinking you can do it. Expect a night of laughs, food talk, and tons of inspiration.
Seattle International Butoh Festival
Nov. 22-24
YAW Theater
$20+
This year, catch Mari Osanai from Japan, Eugenia Vargas from Mexico, and Tebby Ramasike from South Africa/Netherlands, who will showcase their stunning work through live performances and video presentations. Plus, don’t miss the pre-festival event that dives into Ramasike’s dance, followed by a Q&A.
