Seattle’s Fall Colors Are a Must-See This Year

The city is one of the most Instagrammed autumn destinations worldwide

A must-see in Seattle, this wooden bench rests on a sidewalk, embraced by the vibrant fall colors of autumn trees—shades of orange, red, and pink—contrasted against a charming brick building.

Have you noticed how incredible Seattle is in the fall? We’ve got it all — colorful leaves, coffee shops, lots of public gardens and parks, cozy bars, and everyone in their fuzzy sweaters and fall layers. It’s no wonder locals and tourists are turning the city’s pretty seasonal colors into Instagram gold. Seattle has landed a top-five spot on the world’s most picturesque autumn cities list, with over 18,000 Instagram posts tagged #fallinseattle.

UK-based travel agency Travelbag pulled together Instagram hashtag data. Not surprisingly, New York (#fallinnewyork) and Chicago (#fallinchicago) took first and second, but Seattle slid into fifth, trailing Melbourne (#autumninmelbourne) and Seoul (#autumninseoul). We even beat out Boston and Tokyo.

Every day, everywhere, I’m pointing it out to anyone who’ll listen: It’s so beautiful right now! Golden hour, just before sunset, is when the red, orange, and yellow trees really glow. Yesterday, walking down Fremont Avenue past Power House, I saw all those bright red trees lined up. And across the water, the north side of Queen Anne Hill looks so pretty. What’s your favorite Seattle spot right now? Share it with us on Instagram, and don’t forget to tag it.
