Saying “the need is greater than it’s ever been,” Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission is asking Seattle-area residents to donate 15- to 20-pound turkeys from now until Nov. 27.

The 92-year-old nonprofit is seeking 1,500 turkeys, as it expects to serve 1,600 meals to men, women, and children in its long-term recovery programs, emergency shelters, and search and rescue outreach efforts. It will also give turkeys to families and local churches who reach out.

Turkeys can be dropped off at four locations on weekdays:

  • Distribution Center at 8226 S. 208thSt., Suite G110, Kent from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Men’s Shelter at 318 Second Ave. Extension S., Seattle from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Hope Place, Women’s Recover,  3802 S. Othello St., Seattle, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Riverton Place, Men’s Recovery at 3020 S 128thSt., Seattle, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Mission, which says more than 16,000 people are struggling with homelessness and addiction in the greater Seattle area, is also accepting monetary donations.
