Washington is a naturally beautiful state. It’s safe. Its air quality is comparatively topnotch.

That makes it one of the best states to go running, according to a report by exercise and nutrition company Fitness Voit, which ranks it No. 5.

The report notes that Washington hosts only two major marathons, but makes up for it by holding 430 other races for runners of all skill levels. However, the state’s relatively high elevation “is the price of having such beautiful landscapes, which could make some runs slightly harder than others.”

Florida was No. 1, followed by Ohio, California and New York.
