Second Volterra to Open This Fall On Kirkland’s Main Drag

It’s been quite a seven years for Michelle Quisenberry and her chef-husband Don Curtiss, and quite a seven years for Old Ballard Ave. When Volterra opened on the historic street in 2005, few of the current businesses had yet to open: no Bastille, Moshi Moshi, no Walrus & Carpentor or any of the slew of new bars and eateries farther south on that narrow road.

And so the two are celebrating the 7th birthday of their warm, rustic Tuscan-inspired restaurant, Volterra, by announcing an Eastside outpost. “We have many loyal customers who live on the Eastside, and with the opening of our Kirkland location,” Quisenberry says, “our guests will be able to receive the same Volterra experience without the hassle of dealing with traffic and bridges.”

Michelle said they’re in the very earliest stages of construction on the space at 121 Kirkland Avenue, but that they’ll eventually be open for lunch and dinner, and they’ll do a happy hour. Bonus: attendees of the SIFF opening night gala in Kirkland on May 31 (at the Kirkland Performance Center) will get a taste of what Volterra’s all about; the restaurant will be serving up bites of its Tuscan specialties.
