MUST NOT RUN?
NEPO 5K: Don’t Run
Saturday (9/10)
When is a 5K not a run? When the city won’t give you a permit! No matter, it’s easier to experience art at a slower pace, anyway. Artist Klara Glosova, who opens her Beacon Hill home to the public for exhibits of local art on a regular basis as NEPO House, has organized an extravaganza of visual art and performance spanning 5K between Occidental Square and NEPO House. Start in Occidental Square, where you’ll obtain maps and “artistic licenses,” witness a performance by Vis-à-Vis Society, meander through exhibits in Pioneer Square galleries, then make your way to the International District, wander into new installations in Hing Hay Park (where Seattle mag online editor and NEPO board member @bondhuberman will be leading a very interesting game inspired by Werner Herzog’s Encounters at the End of the World); and mosey up to Beacon Hill, where live music awaits, as well as acres of art at NEPO House. Along the way, expect a variety of live performances. The only rule? No running. 9/10. Walk: 2–6 p.m. NEPO House art show: 6 p.m.–midnight. Free. nepohouse.org

MUST GAWK
Fashion Night Out
Thursday (9/8)
Neiman Marcus at The Bravern anchors the Eastside’s Fashion Night Out, presenting two free runway shows for fashionable gangs of girlfriends. Spend the rest of the evening traipsing through the high-end shops, open until 10 p.m. for the occasion. 9/8. 6 p.m., shows at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Neiman Marcus at The Bravern, Bellevue, 11111 NE Eighth St.; 425.452.3300; neimanmarcus.com

MUST PLANT
Seattle Tilth Harvest Fair
Saturday (9/10)
Thanks to the urban gardening trend, Seattle backyards are buzzing, bock-bock-ing and baa-ing with life. Whether you’ve already earned your overalls or are looking to do so, Tilth’s Harvest Fair is a must, with garden supplies, fresh produce and livestock demos, plus live music and local eats. 9/10. 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Seattle Tilth Meridian Park, behind the Good Shepherd Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N; 206.633.0451; seattletilth.org

MUST SINGALONG
Rhett Miller
Saturday (9/10)
A man of many musical talents, singer-songwriter Rhett Miller is taking some time off as front man for Dallas band the Old 97’s to do some folk-flavored solo touring, including a much anticipated stop in Seattle. He hasn’t dropped a solo album since 2009. Maybe the performance will include a special announcement? 8 p.m. $22–$25 at the door. The Triple Door, 216 Union St.; 206.838.4333; tripledoor.net

MUST READ
Stacy Carlson’s Among the Wonderful
Saturday (9/10)
Seattle native (and current Oaklander) Stacy Carlson has written a beautiful new work of historical fiction based on P.T. Barnum’s spectacular (and spectacularly doomed) endeavor: Barnum’s American Museum, which thrilled and appalled visitors from 1841 to 1865. Through two museum employees—a taxidermist and a “giantess”—Among the Wonderful chronicles the museum’s daily life, and in so doing reveals both the normalcy of so-called oddities and the strangeness of the norm. 9/10. 6:30. Free. Third Place Books, Lake Forest Park, 17171 Bothell Way, NE; 206.366.3333; thirdplacebooks.com
