Where to Go for Pizza in West Seattle: Quadrato

This Italian eatery, tucked just off California Avenue, makes one thick and delicious slice of pizza

!–paging_filter–pIt may be owned by the folks behind West Seattle’s more upscale (and totally delicious) Neapolitan joint, a href=”http://\/\/seattlemag.com/article/restaurant-review-pizzeria-22“Pizzeria 22/a, but Quadrato serves a whole other genre of pizza. Tucked in just off California Avenue near The Junction, in a space the size of a walk-in closet with barstools and counter seating, Quadrato doles out the thick, topping-heavy, square pizza slices of Midwesterners’ youths. I dig the purity of the Sfincione ($4.50 for a generous square slice): simply smooth, really good red sauce, pecorino and mozzarella cheeses, and breadcrumbs. But the veggie pizza ($4.75) is divine: zucchini, mushrooms, peppers and onions roasted until sweet and caramelized, dotted with ricotta on marinara-sauce-dressed dough and Mama Lil’s peppers; it’s a veggie pizza made by people who love their veggies. There are hefty sandwiches, too. I like the meatball with provolone, the veal perfectly tender, the Grand Central hoagie roll standing up to the copious fillings within ($9.95 with macaroni salad).
