This week the North Cascades Institute, which is celebrating its 25th year conserving and protecting Northwest environments through experiential outdoor education, announced an exciting slate of learning programs and field excursions as part of its 2011 schedule. This year the Institute made a special effort to bring back some of its favorite field instructors from its early years.
It's old news that chefs in this town put their fancy foot forward with their first restaurants, making a splash with more elaborate dishes, a more formal dining room approach, and a "I take my food seriously" aire. But with the second restaurant? Well that's where they have some fun.
Seattle’s beloved Intiman Theatre has announced an urgent fundraising campaign, thanks to severe financial mismanagement by former managing director Brian Colburn (who resigned suddenly in November citing personal reasons). According to Intiman Board president Kim Anderson, “Unless we are able to raise $500,000 by the end of March, an additional $250,000 by June, and $250,000 by September, we cannot continue.”

(Great news for us Oregon natives often stuck in the Portland I-5 slog; from now on find me hanging out at the Bird between 5-7 p.m. taking a break from the haul to Eugene).
