Take an Olympics-Themed Tour of Seattle During the Winter Games

The Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, begin Feb. 9.

The Winter Olympics take place this month (February 9–25) in Pyeongchang, South Korea, but you don’t need to leave the city—or even watch the games—to try out a range of Olympic-themed experiences. 

Take in the view of the mighty Olympic mountain range while enjoying a stroll through the Olympic Sculpture Park (downtown, 2901 Western Ave.; 206.654.3100). Visit on Kids’ Saturday (February 10, 11 a.m.‒2 p.m.), when little ones can take part in organized art activities, park excursions, story time and a movie; or for the Art Encounter program (February 23, 7‒9 p.m.), which explores the relationship between art and the environment. Both events are free. 

Enjoy a gold-, silver- or bronze-themed cocktail in The Terrace Lounge at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel (downtown, 411 University St.; 206.621.1700). The luxury property is rolling out a special “Winner Takes All” beverage menu in commemoration of the 2018 games. We’re eyeing the “Olympic Gold”: a Champagne and gin cocktail with a “gold dust” rim. 

Train like an athlete at Ballard’s Olympic Athletic Club (5301 Leary Ave. NW; 206.789.5010; free, three-day trial membership), where you can swim laps in the junior Olympic-size pool, play racquetball, or try a spin, CrossFit, barre, belly dancing or yoga class.
